Host responsibility
The Problem Gambling Foundation of New Zealand has made a strategic commitment to the long-term provision of host responsibility services to the gambling sector. In doing so, PGF has committed to a software development programme. This will see provision of these services in line with best practice where staff training is key to client business success.
PGF can now offer a service that is more in keeping with a state-of-the-art system. The system can be fully computerised and electronically driven or partially electronic and partially paper driven. This latter option is seen as a transitional requirement with the longer term strategy of completely automating the full system.
Features of the new service
This system has the following attractive features:
- It can be accessed by anyone who has access to the internet
- An initial training (awareness) module can be completed before the first day of work or soon thereafter. This enables staff to gain a level of problem gambling Host Responsibility competence
- The important and more accessible (more courses) face-to-face training module is to be attended within the initial six month period
- Refresher training can be carried out online at organisation-determined intervals lowering the need for more costly continued face-to-face training
- Significant changes in employment or service delivery practice can be included in refresher training and a programme of updating staff embarked upon according to the organisation's timetable
- A user organisation can make their own employee registrations and course bookings online
- The calendar is online and will thus be always up-to-date
- Staff training records will be kept by the system
- Staff training attainment levels will be kept by the system
- The system administrator will be able to be contacted and help sort out issues
- A help function will be available to staff who are having problems in the work place around problem gambling host responsibility.
The system has three modules which interface with the staff or client organisations. These are:
- The awareness raising module
- The face-to-face training module
- The refresher module
These are underpinned and "glued" together by the HOST database system.
